Touch ID 目前應用在 iOS 裝置解鎖及購物驗證上，比起傳統密碼提供更安全的保護，但僅限 Apple 自家裝置使用。WWDC 上 Apple 宣佈 iOS 將開放 Touch ID 給第三方應用程式使用，對於某些需要高度加密的 App 將可透過 Touch ID 的串接提供更好的防護，例如知名密碼儲存服務 1Password 或財務、文件相關應用程式。

針對 Touch ID 開放後的安全性 Apple 表示儘管第三方 App 可透過 Touch ID 來辨識指紋，但仍無法取得您的指紋資料。
