吸引多支大聯盟球隊目光的古巴叛將Rusney Castillo，據傳已成紅襪一員，雙方簽下7年7250萬美元合約，創下業餘球員合約最高總金額紀錄。

27歲、身高175公分的「小巨人」Castillo，長打能力雖然不如另一位古巴好手Jose Abreu，但Castillo的速度、外野防守功夫，令各隊球探印象深刻。

「Castillo速度在水準之上，能守中外野或右外野，」紅襪教頭John Farrell說，「他的打擊、長打能力如何？我們的球探對他評價不錯。如果真像球探報告寫的那麼好，這會是一筆可觀的投資。」

原本紅襪隊不打算拿這麼多錢搶人，但感受到來自競爭對手的壓力，像是世仇洋基、以及老虎、水手、費城人、巨人等隊，都想網羅Castillo，這才使紅襪加碼。

先前古巴球員合約總價紀錄，是白襪Abreu的6800萬。道奇隊給Yasiel Puig的總價4200萬，至於當初運動家簽Yoenis Cespedes的價碼，則是3600萬。
