統一獅是去年的總冠軍隊，但現在是最後一名，爭下半季冠軍愈來愈辛苦，2日在桃園對Lamgo桃猿之戰，將由馬帝斯先發，桃猿則由曾兆豪主投。

獅隊目前戰績17勝21敗，落後領先的義大犀牛4.5場勝差，這個差距不算大，但要爭冠軍，接下來獅隊必須步步為營，要打贏每一場該贏的比賽，總教練陳連宏說從本周開始，3名洋投都要「投一休四」，全力爭取冠軍。

馬帝斯本季戰績7勝5敗、防禦率3.12，對桃猿戰績2勝2敗、防禦率2.04。馬帝斯投完2日的比賽，休息4天之後，7日對中信兄弟的比賽可望再上場先發。

曾兆豪前一場對統一獅先發，差點投出無安打比賽，直到第9局才破功，2日再戰獅隊，他還會那麼神勇嗎？曾兆豪本季戰績1勝4敗、防禦率3.30，對獅隊戰績1勝1敗、防禦率2.38。
