長期研究台灣228史的台灣史學者、前國史館館長張炎憲，台北時間昨日傍晚5時，因心肌梗塞併發多重器官衰竭，在美國辭世，享壽67歲。民進黨主席蔡英文聞訊深感哀悼，並感念其對台灣史研究的無私付出與巨大貢獻，指示黨中央全力協助家屬辦理後事。

張炎憲擁有日本東京大學博士學位，在2000年至2008年民進黨執政時期，曾擔任國史館館長，並致力於研究與收集關於228事件、白色恐怖與台灣獨立相關口述史紀錄。

張炎憲是在前月26日，在美國費城進行二二八口述史訪調過程中突然病倒，經友人緊急送醫後，被診斷為急性心肌梗塞。然而在手術治療並裝上葉克膜後，仍於美東時間10月3日凌晨5時55分（台灣時間昨日傍晚5點55分）辭世。
