2014年1月，中國境內的網路連線突然發生中斷，當地媒體報導指稱此事是美國駭客所引起，並呼籲中國人民「為了資訊安全，請支持國家防火長城。」其後臺灣的《中時電子報》毫不質疑地大量引用了這篇文章。但是，英文媒體對此事件卻有著很不一樣的報導，彭博社、路透社等知名媒體，皆指出：此事既非美國駭客造成，且極可能是中國的「防火長城」自身疏失導致的意外事件。點此閱讀全文
