高雄地檢署追查氣爆元凶，5日上午出動機具，裁切李長榮化工破損的4吋丙烯管進行鑑定，傍晚又約談李長榮化工大社廠3名員工，與華運一名工程師，釐清案情，4人訊後均被請回。

檢方查出在二聖路和凱旋路口的涵洞內發現，李長榮化工的4吋管線有補丁脫落，4日與金屬管線專家到現場勘查，的確看到一個28平方公分的破洞，並懷疑是引發氣爆的元凶。

5日上午10時左右，檢方再度會同金屬管線專家，出動機具前往現場欲裁切破損的4吋管線。在裁切前檢方擔心管內恐殘存丙烯，先請相關人員排入氮氣清除後，約莫進行1小時，之後再進行裁切作業，完成後便立刻送往金屬中心檢驗。

檢方動作頻頻，傍晚又以證人身分約談李長榮化工大社廠王姓廠長、邱姓副廠長與一名組員，而華運則是一名工程師被檢方約談，4人訊後均被請回。
