穿越平交道前一定要小心謹慎，並遵守規則。台鐵前年在埔心火車站，因為砂石車搶越平交道，導致司機殉職，出頭全毀的嚴重事故，損失2億多元。

台鐵今（24）日表示，101年1月17日278次太魯閣號列車行經埔心車站，因砂石車搶越平交道，肇致駕駛機車長殉職，列車車頭全毀，損失達2億3,570萬元，該車頭向日本原製造廠訂購，歷經18個月重新打造，將在8月28日運抵台灣組裝，相關細部組件及測試後，可望在明(104)年4月歸隊投入營運。

台鐵強調，藉由埔心平交道慘痛不幸事件，再次呼籲車輛駕駛人、行人不要搶越平交道，務必遵守下列交通規則，警鈴響起時不搶越平交道，保持平交道安全淨空；平交道前停、看、聽，與前車保持安全距離；萬一車輛在平交道上拋錨、或發現有其他障礙物時，請盡速按下平交道旁紅色的「緊急按鈕」，以避免發生重大傷害事故。
