有方法檢測你家中的油，是不是餿水油嗎？答案是「網路流傳的簡易檢測方法，營養師都說不可能，因此千萬不要隨便相信網路傳言」。
不肖黑心商人，用餿水油毒全台，造成人心惶惶，最近更有一招餿水油簡易檢測方法，在網友間瘋狂流傳，內容強調：要知道自己家中的油，是否是餿水油？只要用兩招就知，
一是：「把油放冰箱兩小時，如上面出現白色泡沫，就是餿水油」；另一個方法是：「炒菜放油後，放進一顆剝皮的蒜頭，如果蒜頭變成紅色，就是餿水油」。網路流傳，兩種方法能測出餿水油，是因裡面含有大量黃麴霉素。
