英國電視上，一星期播出的教做菜節目有四百三十四點五小時，不過，多數英國人都把烹飪節目當娛樂，邊看、邊吃現成的食物。自己不下廚。

英國早期的電視烹飪節目，主要是教觀眾怎麼做菜。現在，英國的烹飪節目，照烹飪專家的說法，成了名廚炫耀技術的舞台。觀眾看了會不會做已經不重要了。

依照英國廣電觀眾研究會的統計，現在英國教育類節目的收視率只剩百分之零點零一，而包括烹飪節目在內的娛樂節目，收視率卻有百分之八點四。所以，電視烹飪節目已經從教做飯，變成了表演做飯了。
