Taiwan market: Samsung launches two metal smartphones

Samsung Electronics has unveiled two metal-clad smartphones, the Galaxy A5 and A3, in the Taiwan market, targeting the entry-level to midrange segment.
The Galaxy A5 and A3, Samsung's first devices to feature fully metallic bodies, will go on sale later in December at NT$11,990 (US$383) and NT$8,990, respectively, said the company.
Since the prices of metal smartphones available in Taiwan are normally higher than NT$20,000, the Galaxy A5 and A3 will have strong potential in the local market, particularly among young and female consumers, said Andy Tu, general manager of Samsung's mobile communication business in Taiwan.
Samsung has been using metal materials since the launch of the Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note and is expected to release more flagship models or mid-range models with metallic bodies in 2015, Tu said.
The Galaxy A5 sports a 5-inch 720p HD super AMOLED display, Qualcomm 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 CPU, 13-megapixel main camera and with 2GB RAM/16GB ROM. The Galaxy A3 comes with a 4.5-inch qHD Super AMOLED display, Snapdragon 410 CPU, 8-megapix camera and with 1GB RAM/8GB ROM.
