黑襪留臭名還被翻拍成電影

1919年世界大賽爆發的「黑襪事件（Black Sox Scandal）」，可說是美國棒壇最黑暗的一頁，當時參與的8名白襪球員遭大聯盟終生禁賽，也因為他們讓白襪染「黑」，才有「黑襪」之名。

白襪當年戰績最佳，外界評估可擊敗對手紅人，但為了報復白襪老闆對於球員薪資太過吝嗇，白襪一壘手甘地爾就和賭徒共謀，找來包括明星外野手「無鞋喬」傑克森在內的7名隊友，故意輸掉比賽。

由於放水風聲愈傳愈烈，隔年1920年球季，美國當局著手進行調查，隔年大陪審團雖判決8名球員無罪，但大聯盟主席蘭帝斯仍判處他們終生禁賽，「黑襪」在歷史留下臭名，而後電影「陰謀密戰（Eight Men Out）」即在講述這件「8人出局」的醜聞。
