根據紐約時報報導，共和黨若贏得參院控制權，將計劃通過一項平衡預算，但專家說，推動平衡預算仍然不太可能成功。

參院共和黨議員可透過妥協方式，讓一套平衡預算通過參院，並免受參院民主黨員議員的阻撓。

但歐巴馬總統仍可能否決該法案，而參院共和黨議員沒有必需的三分之二的多數推翻他的否決，預算專家Stan Collender指出。

Potomac研究集團分析師Greg Valliere表示，共和黨無意加稅。但即使大幅削減支出，在收入未增加的情況下，仍無法達到平衡預算。

「原則上，聽起來還不錯，但細節則不可能，」Valliere補充說道。

他們認為能夠通過平衡預算，似乎太過天真，他指出。

聯邦預算中心估計，未來十年，必須削減支出5.5兆美元，到2025年才能平衡預算。如果國會通過企業稅率優惠，則成本將增加1兆美元。
