唐獎生技醫藥得主本庶佑在頒獎典禮時致詞表示，感謝唐獎賜予他的殊榮，對於他和研究團隊開發的PD-1抗體免疫系統療法，其實始於一連串無心插柳的結果，但現在證實在許多癌症病患身上都顯著治療效果，今得到唐獎的肯定，對他而言更增添無比的價值。

本庶佑說，他感到驕傲的是，PD-1癌症免疫療法的基本原則，完全是由學界確立的，今天學界的研發種子已成功散播到日本製藥產業，他認為產學間的合作應該互利互惠，學界獲得產業界的合理回，才能扶持新一代的科學家，持續創新研究。

最後，本庶佑想感謝實驗室所有成員，京都大學的Minato、Fujii和Konishi教授，他們對於發現PD-1並釐清其生理機制和最終臨床反應，都有卓越的貢獻。
