俄羅斯網球協會會長（塔比謝夫），在接受電視訪問的時候，質疑威廉絲姊妹的性別，遭到女子職業網球協會WTA罰款兩萬五千美元，外加停權一年的處分，WTA也要剝奪他擔任克里姆林盃錦標賽主席的資格。

WTA說，威廉絲姊妹名列女子網球運動最偉大選手之林，（塔比謝夫）身為國際奧會委員和俄羅斯網球協會主席，在言行上，應該用更高的標準來自我要求，否則怎能作為體育界的表率，WTA說，塔比謝夫對威廉絲姊妹的侮辱和貶損，無法被容許，他應該要向威廉絲姊妹道歉。
