與葡萄牙一戰，Pepe被紅牌罰下，這是德國在世界盃看著對手領到的第20張紅牌，這項數據傲視各個參賽國。

據統計，在德國100場世界盃比賽內，他們的對手總計吃下20紅牌，為各國之最，德國也是第一支在世界盃出賽滿百場的球隊。

而Pepe這張紅牌，是葡萄牙從2002年世界盃至本屆為止的第6張，也是他們連續4次參與世界盃，都至少有一名球員被紅牌退場。

Pepe是在比賽第37分鐘，揮手打到Thomas Müller臉部，還上前與倒在地上的 Müller發生爭執，被裁判給了張紅牌。

根據規則，領紅牌退場的球員，要被禁賽一場，由於Pepe行為過於粗暴，〈路透社〉報導，他可能要被禁賽三場，葡萄牙之後要面對的對手是迦納與美國。
