一場「無情的雨」、加上一個「無情的你」，害雙城王牌Phil Hughes少賺50萬美金！

Hughes本季最後一次先發，面對響尾蛇隊，8局被敲5安、只失1分的精采演出，幫助雙城2比1贏球，Hughes拿到第16勝。不過，比賽因雨中斷66分鐘，使得用了96球的Hughes，沒辦法上來投第9局。

雙城給Hughes的合約，有「局數激勵獎金」，如果投到210局，可以再拿50萬。結果Hughes本季局數停在209又2/3局，就差一人次而已。

賽後雙城教頭Ron Gardenhire說，如果不是下雨，會讓Hughes上去投第9局，但Gardenhire正是那個「無情的你」，因為他在最後這幾場比賽，不打算讓Hughes後援上場湊局數。

Hughes當然清楚，只差1/3局就可以再賺50萬，「但有些事情，不是理所當然。」

如果Hughes不再上場，那會打破「單季三振保送比」紀錄，留名青史。

本季Hughes投出186次三振，只有16次四壞保送，比例11.63，超越Bret Saberhagen的舊紀錄。Saberhagen在1994年為大都會效力時，單季三振143、四壞保送13，比例11.00。

今年底薪800萬的Hughes，沒能拿到這50萬，但先前已經拿到「190局門檻」的25萬獎金，本季戰績16勝10敗，防禦率3.61。
