白襪隊與Melky Cabrera（卡布瑞拉）簽下3年4500萬美元的合約，田中將大今年加入洋基，挑戰美國大聯盟，初登板先發，首局首打席就被Melky Cabrera轟出全壘打，讓人印象深刻。

Melky Cabrera從田中將大轟出全壘打之後，接下來連3戰轟出紅不讓，而且開幕起連14戰擊出安打，締造了藍鳥隊的隊史紀錄，9月，Melky Cabrera因為右手小指骨折，掛出傷號，本季出賽139場，打擊率3成01、全壘打16支、打點73分。

季後，Melky Cabrera取得自由球員資格，不少球團都有意網羅他，今天傳出消息，Melky Cabrera選擇加入白襪。Melky Cabrera效力洋基時，2005年升上大聯盟，是王建民併肩作戰的同期戰友，2009年球季結束，先後效力勇士、皇家、巨人及藍鳥等隊。
