被降為板凳後的5戰，林書豪表現起起伏伏，雖曾在13日作客黑衫軍馬刺之戰，繳出14分、8助攻的優質數據，但16日碰上溜馬，單場6投0中只得2分，僅上場17分鐘也創下本季新低，「豪小子」坦言無法發揮自己的實力很挫敗，對此湖人教頭史考特(Byron Scott)則再次提醒，他必須打出侵略性、打得更聰明。

過去5戰，湖人控衛林書豪從先發轉任替補，場均上場時間縮減到21.8分鐘，除了13日對戰馬刺繳出14分、8助攻較理想，有3戰命中率都在2成以下，甚至前一戰還出現6投盡墨的窘境，5戰打下來，平均每場僅貢獻6分、4.6助攻，場均命中率更跌到2成86，陷入嚴重低潮。

對於自己慘澹的近況，「豪小子」感到十分懊惱，他坦言「知道自己能做什麼，卻無法將這些貢獻給球隊」，是本季遇到最困難的事；林書豪本季表現相當不穩定，雖曾在開季第一個月2度拿下「雙十」，前25戰卻有2場得分掛蛋，場均10.7分和42.5%的命中率，都是近4季以來的新低。

如何擺脫困境，發揮個人價值，成了這位26歲控衛現在最大的難題，對此教頭史考特18日受訪時再次給出建議，「如果你有能力帶給球隊更多貢獻，那你就全部拿出來吧！他必須保持侵略性，在場上打得更聰明一些，我們上次講過，他要弄清楚自己和誰一起打球，幫助隊友融入比賽，畢竟他是那個掌握球權的人。」

相較之下，另一位被降為替補的大前鋒布瑟(Carlos Boozer)，不僅沒有角色適應的問題，近5戰還有高效演出，繳出場均15.2分、10.2籃板的數據，命中率達到5成42；對此史考特表示，確實感受到布瑟想重返先發的決心，但這位明星前鋒已經接受改打替補的挑戰。
