日本札幌市中央區的圓山動物園進行了一次實驗，透過敲鼓來促進瀕危揚子鱷的繁殖。雖然揚子鱷對專業演奏的鼓聲反應活躍，但最終沒達到預期效果。

中新網據日本《朝日新聞》報導，揚子鱷現存150多條，屬極危物種。該動物園於2001年初次成功繁殖。當時通過敲打鱷魚展館的窗戶產生聲音和振動，刺激了鱷魚的發情。

這次動物園藉由札幌市廣播局邀請到了大鼓演奏家茂呂剛伸，並於本月9日在鱷魚養殖水槽前進行了大鼓演奏。原本一動不動的鱷魚聽到鼓聲後開始爬動，發出叫聲開始發情。

該動物園的飼養員表示『鱷魚是夜行動物，希望這次發情後，能盡快開始繁殖活動』。
