如果一半的人體都有某種特點，通常人們早就知道了。但是英國《自然—通訊》雜誌刊登的一項最新研究顯示，有一種病毒已在一半的人體體內長期存在，才剛剛被發現。

根據光明日報報導，美國州立聖迭戈大學的羅伯特‧愛德華茲等人在研究人體腸道內的微生物時，意外地發現了一些過去從未見過的DNA（脫氧核糖核酸）片段，在已有的資料庫中查不到這些DNA屬於哪種微生物，後來才確定這是一種新發現的病毒。研究人員給它起名為crAssphage。

『發現一種新型病毒並不少見，』愛德華茲說，『但特別的是，許多人體內已有這種病毒，它就在我們眼皮底下存在了這麼長時間而沒被發現是很奇怪的事情。』

對人群糞便樣本的分析顯示，這種病毒可能已存在於約一半人的體內。它的歷史也很悠久，目前看來可能和人類歷史一樣長。這種病毒的傳播途徑尚不明確，但嬰兒的糞便樣本中沒有它的痕跡，表明它可能不是透過母嬰傳播，而是在人們成長過程中進入體內的。

這種病毒有什麼作用？目前的研究顯示，它以一種擬桿菌為宿主，而這種擬桿菌與糖尿病和一些腸道疾病有關。研究人員說，如果能進一步探清這種病毒在相關疾病機理中究竟起正面還是負面作用，或許有助開發出新的治療方法。
